Tilde Server Communiy..Or What I Was Able To Do
I am unable to look at our classes Tilde Community Server since I was not in class but I am part of different communities in our class. Since I was not in class and unable to see the server for our class, but I am able to see what others say about it. I will be using 3rd party views to be able to compare what I do know to what I understand.
Discord
Discord is an applicaiton/service that allows a person, or group of people, to create a server for others to join and be involved. By using this platform, a person can be part of multiple servers and particpate in them. Within one server there could be different "rooms", places within a server that either have different topics, places to chat or post things, host announcements, etc. On Discord, I am part of many different communites, ranging from servers for school or servers for gaming. Being part of these servers/communities has made it easier to connect to different people.
Coding Train
The Coding Train is a server that I am part of that is hosted by a YouTuber/Twitch streamer. The host's name is Daniel Shiffman and the content he creates is all about coding. Shiffman does coding tutorials and projects, and he created the Discord server to connect all of people within his community. People can share their own projects, ask questions, help eachother out, and just generally talk to eachother. The server has over 1500 people that use it and it has been established since about 2017. The server link is connected to his social media accounts such has his YouTube and Twitter, and anyone can join. I joined the Discord server so that I could get updates on Shiffmans projects as well as get help when I first started coding.
GORR's Dungeon
GORR's Dungeon is a server that that my friend had created for his music. He made the server that he and his friends could have fun and make content. Some of the content that is made is music, art, and general chatting. The server also shows when he will release his content and get sneak peaks of what he is making. The server hasn't been esteblished for that long, only about a year, and mostly his closest friends are part of the server which is about 30 people. I joined the server to have more insider info of when he releases music, as well as have fun with him.
Xbox
Xbox is a console created by Microsoft that allows a person to play games as well as connect people together. The Xbox most intended purpose to play video games but a person could also add friends and play together. One thing that people have used Xbox to do is to create "clans". "Clans" is something that the users of the Xbox, as well as other gaming consoles/platforms since it was not invented by Xbox, can be part of that shows that people are within the same group. Typically people within a clan would change their name to include their clans name so that others could see other group of people and understand that they are together. This isn't really a server but it is a community that connects people. I used to be part of clan with my friends and we we used the clan to plan parties and play games together. The clan made it easier so that we didn't have to play with random people.
The Tilde Server
The Tilde Server for the class, from what I've seen, is similar to some platforms like Discord. It's similar because it connects many people to one place so that they can interact and talk/post content. One of the similarities is the ability to talk to different people who are within the same server space. The ability to interact is a key feature within a community so that those in the community aren't alone, otherwise it's not a server/community, it would be a just a personal blog/talking space. Another similarity is being able to see who is or isn't online. On Discord, you can see if somone is online, idling, on do-not-disturb, or just offline, but someone could also put themself as invisible which means they are online but shows themself offline. On the Tilde Server, all you can see if someone is logged on or off, it doesn't have the capabilities to show the extra statuses as Discord. One of the differences is how people communicate within the servers. On Discord, you can send text, images, videos, links, and talk with your voice. On the Tilde Servers, all that can be done is using text-based messages to interact, which means what can be said or communicated is very limited. In conclusion, Discord and the Tilde Server are two very different platforms that could be used to connect people, but they both get the job done. Discord may have more capabilities and features, the Tilde Server still connects people within a community together and that is the main goal.
